RAMADAN STALLS

and the goodies we went home with

From left: Sour Plum, Orange, Mata Kuching or Cat's Eye is a small fruit in the lychee family. The seeds resemble a cat's eye.

Black Grass Jelly drink, Pineapple Drink, Sour Plum Drink

Cincau or Black Grass Jelly, Coconut, Soya Bean

Bubur Pulut Hitam (Black Glutinous Rice thick soup), Bubur Kacang Hijau (Green Beans thick soup), this one looks new...looks like there's some multi-colored cendol...will try another day ;)

Interesting creation....creme caramel without the caramel topped with a cherry jelly. Nice.

Ayam Percik (spicy barbecued chicken)

Ikan Bakar - 'Burned' Fish (various)

Karipap Ayam (spiral chicken curry puffs)

Shawarma served in a pita with a delicious sweet sauce and pickled vegetables.

Nasi Campur - rice with a delicious array of dishes for accompaniment

My personal fav - Nasi Dagang, a Kelantan specialty, special sticky rice, with kerisik (toasted grated coconut) and acar (pickled vegetables) served on the side. Wait, wait! The star is the lauk ikan tongkol.....YUM! The lady gave me a big bag of the fish gravy....must return for her blue Nasi Kerabu.....droooooollllll!!!

Otak-otak Johor Bahru (Grilled Fish Custard)

Rojak  - this version had shredded jicama, firm tofu, blanched bean sprouts and long beans. Peanut gravy is packed separately so that the vegetables do not turn soggy.

One-Foot Long Roti John - the origin of this loooooooooong dog is Melaka. This one had omelette, pickled veg and pulled chicken meat in it.

Tikam Lado....This, apparently is another Kelantanese specialty. The green 'cake' is made from rice flour. The pink rice is glutinous rice. Both of which are rather tasteless on its own. That's why you have to eat it with the coconut milk and gula melaka syrup (palm sugar syrup).
